CrossFit & the Holidays: Tips for Staying on Track

The holidays are upon us! It’s a time for festive cheer, family gatherings, and maybe a few too many cookies. But amidst the hustle and bustle, it’s easy to let your fitness routine fall by the wayside.

At CrossFit Tundra, we believe in enjoying the holidays to the fullest, but that doesn’t mean pressing pause on your health and fitness goals. Here’s how to stay consistent and ring in the new year feeling your best:

1. Keep Moving (Even if it’s Not at Tundra)

While hitting your WODs 3-4 times per week is ideal, we know that holiday schedules can get hectic. Don’t worry, staying active doesn’t always mean a full-blown workout. Aim for 10,000 steps a day, whether it’s a brisk walk with family, a snowball fight with the kids, or simply parking further away from the store entrance.

2. Savor the Feast (Mindfully)

‘Tis the season for delicious food and festive gatherings. Enjoy those holiday treats and meals with loved ones, but practice mindful eating. Listen to your body’s hunger cues, savor each bite, and choose nutrient-rich options whenever possible.

3. Rest and Recharge (Stress Less)

The holidays can be a whirlwind of activity. Prioritize sleep, manage stress, and carve out time for yourself amidst the chaos. Even a few minutes of meditation or deep breathing can make a world of difference.

4. Don’t Skip the Gym Entirely

While life gets busy, try to maintain your CrossFit routine as much as possible. Even a few WODs per week will help you stay on track and maintain your fitness level. Plus, it’s a great way to de-stress and connect with your CrossFit Tundra community.

5. Plan Ahead and Stay Accountable

Schedule your workouts like important appointments, and consider finding a workout buddy to stay motivated. If your plans change, be flexible and find alternative ways to stay active, even if it’s a quick home workout or a walk around the neighborhood.
